Tsavo West Education Centre

The centre's operations started fully in July, 2001. This was after the completion of the Information display at the centre. Though Education activities had been taking place from the park headquarters, opening of the centre has proved more efficient and convenient to reach a divergent group of visitors to the park.

The main and overall objective is to create awareness to visitors and the general public on the importance of wildlife conservation in particular and Natural resources at large; by providing general information on wildlife and environmental conservation in Kenya.

The centre is located 200 metres from the Tsavo West main entry gate at Mtito Andei, midway between Nairobi and Mombasa. Its 8 kilometres from the Tsavo West Park Headquarters.

Target groups
The centre targets all visitors to the park; KWS staff, school groups, church groups, local and international tourists, community groups, colleges, universities, politicians and the general public.

Lectures to all visitors passing through the centre, bus hires to conservation areas visits, out reach programmes, provision of guide services to visitors in the park (wildlife film shows to be started now that we have power at the centre), lectures on conservation to tourists at the lodges and hotels (on request), distribution of conservation materials.
