Legal Officer

Kenya Wildlife Service is a State Corporation whose responsibility is to manage and conserve Wildlife in Kenya. The Service wishes to recruit a dynamic, innovative and experienced individual to fill the position of Legal Officer.

Reporting to the Corporation Secretary, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal advise to the management and organization at large; representing the organization in courts, tribunals, arbitrations, liaising with other relevant agencies including the Attorney General’s Chambers, Government Ministries/Departments, external parties and lawyers on legal matters affecting or relating to the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities will include:-

  • Drawing contracts, leases and other legal documents and vetting those drawn by other parties.

  • Advising and undertaking prosecutions of cases under the provisions of the relevant law.

  • Assisting in the review of law, by-laws and regulations relating to the organization.

  • Preparing of policy papers and instruments, which have legal implications for consideration by appropriate authorities.

  • Providing legal advise, counsel and assistance to individuals, groups and associations working with the organization.

  • Advising management on legal issues affecting day-to-day management of the organization.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in law from a recognized University.

  • Minimum of three (3) years working experience in legal practice gained from a reputable and busy law firm or large organization.

  • Must possess a current practising certificate

  • Broad exposure and relevant experience in legal practise in commercial law, civil and criminal prosecution, land law, insurance and employment laws.

  • Training in management courses will be an added advantage.
