KWS Officers Arrest Highway Robber

A team of security officers from the Kenya Wildlife Service yesterday seriously wounded and arrested one notorious highway bandit and gunned down his colleague.

The Kenya Wildlife Service patrol team in Sera area of Waso Division near Serolevi town in Samburu District confronted the suspected six-man gang that had been terrorizing motorists along the Isiolo - Marsabit highway in the last three days.

According to Julius Kimani, who is heading the operation to root the bandits, “immediately our Patrol team received information that a gang of highway robbers was waylaying tourists and motorists along the Nairobi-Isiolo highway, they confronted the bandits and a gun fire ensued between KWS officers and the bandits.

“It is during this melee that one of the heavily armed suspect was gunned down and his colleague seriously injured. The others who escaped are still being pursued.”

During the intensive security operation an AK 47 assault rifle was recovered. The seriously injured suspect, now under police custody, is recoveryin at the Wamba Mission Hospital.

“We want to assure the tourists that as the Kenya Wildlife Service, we have intensified security operations across the board and that we are working closely with all the other security forces in ensuring that their safety is guaranteed,” revealed Kimani.

Meanwhile: another suspect has been arrested in Nairobi with one leopard and two Cerval cat hides and three python skins. The suspect who will be charged with being in possession of game trophies without a license is being held at the Langata police station in the City.
