Welcome to Kenya Wildlife Service

To Hells Gate on a Wheelbarrow

May 15, 2010

This is a fun-filled and exciting sports-cum-fundraising event held annually at Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha .It provides an avenue for engagement between KWS, other stakeholders and the surrounding communities.
This year’s event aims to raise Sh 20million for the construction and equipping of a conservation centre to be used to mobilise and educate communities in Naivasha about wildlife conservation.
Famous for its hot geysers, spectacular geographic scenery of huge rock towers, volcanic gorges, belching plumes of geothermal steam, the Ol-Karia geothermal power station and towering cliffs that give an awesome view of the Rift Valley , the park is home to over 67,000 wild animals. Less than 5 per cent of these are permanently based in the protected area.
The rest of the animals are exposed to poaching, leading to an increase in illegal game meat trade, human encroachment and loss of habitat. Conflict in land use, sub land division and fencing also lead to human-wildlife conflict in the area.
