Kenya Wildlife Service press conference

Kenya Wildlife Service will on Tuesday May 8, 2012  from 2.30 pm hold one-hour press conference on “Status of Wildlife” in Kenya at the Nairobi Safari Walk.

The main purpose of the press conference is to update the public on various issues of wildlife conservation.

The press conference is in line with provisions of the new Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights and the Environment.  KWS plans hold periodic “Status of Wildlife in Kenya” briefs to update the public as provided for by the Constitution.

Key highlights of tomorrow’s press conference include:

  • Alignment of wildlife laws and policy to the new Constitution
  • Key species wildlife numbers over the years
  • Status of other endangered species eg Grevy’s zebra, Hirola, sable, sitatunga, Jackson’s Hartebeest etc
  • Kenya’s preparations for CITES conference next year in Bangkok, Thailand
  • Community support programmes
  • Status of human wildlife conflict
  • Status of poaching and illegal wildlife trade 
  • Role of private and community ranches in wildlife conservation
  • Q and A with journalists and exclusive private interviews
