KWS rangers impound game meat

KWS security officers in liaison with the Kenya Police on January 18, 2010 impounded approximately 400kg of suspected game meat on its way to the famous Burma meat market in Nairobi.
The KWS officers were acting on a tip off from a member of the public in Shorinke area, between Kitengela and Isinya where the meat suspected to be that of a giraffe was destined for Nairobi.
The suspected game meat traders however fled upon being confronted by KWS officers at the Burma Market leaving behind a Toyota Saloon vehicle with the meat in packs of polythene bags.
The game meat was taken to the Shauri Moyo Police Station as investigations continue.
The Bush meat problem has been an occasional problem within the City’s local butcheries. Members of the public are urged to be vigilant when buying meat and report any suspected game meat dealers to authorities.
