KWS and Police findings on ivory container seized in Sri Lanka

Authorities at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport count ivory at a past ivory confiscation at the airport on transit before being seized.

Kenya Wildlife Service together with the Kenya Police investigators have established that out of the three containers recently intercepted in Sri Lanka, only one had ivory.  The rest contained the declared items. Records show that the container that was found with ivory of registration number 3709899 had originated from Kampala, Uganda on April 16, 2012. It entered Kenya through the Western border town of Malaba. The container arrived at Kilindini port in Mombasa on April 19, 2012.  The supplier of the container number 3709899 which contained ivory was Iki Iki Global Agencies Ltd of 136 Kampala 08, Johnstone Jaffer while the consignee/recipient was Sou Sou Al Bahr General Tr. L.L.C Dubai. The clearing/handling agent was Interplannet cargo freighters Ltd.  The containers had been declared as containing 240 bags of plastic scrap and fish maws. Investigations have revealed that the containers were loaded onto MSC Roberta that set off Kilindini Port on May 7, 2012.

Further investigations into other aspects of the containers are ongoing.
