Suspect ivory dealer held over elephant tusks

Kasarani OCPD Augustine Nthumbi displays impounded vehicle and the fake and genuine ivory. It's illegal to sell and buy any ivory in Kenya.

A suspected ivory dealer has been arrested with two pieces of raw ivory and four imitations of ivory at Mlango Kubwa in Nairobi County this morning (September 21, 2012).

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials were trailing the suspect after members of the public volunteered information leading to his arrest. A vehicle he was using to transport ivory has been impounded.

The suspect has been taken to KWS headquarters for further interrogation. He will be booked at Langata Police Station awaiting arraignment at a Kibera court on Monday (September 24, 2012).

The suspect will be charged for being in possession of a government trophy and failing to make a report of being in its possession to authorities.
