Suspected poacher shot dead and firearms recovered

Assorted weapons, ammunition, ivory and elephant tusks recovered by KWS rangers from poachers in a past anti-poaching operation.

A suspected poacher was last evening Sunday (July 22, 2012) shot dead in Finafran Ranch in Laikipia County. 

His accomplice, who had initially escaped with injuries, was arrested today Monday (July 23, 2012) in a manyatta together with six other suspects.

The two motorbikes were also traced into the manyatta and impounded alongside their two owners. 

The police were involved in this follow up.  The injured suspect was taken to hospital.

Two rifles, a G3 and 1FN (SLR), 72 rounds of ammunition, five 5 magazines and four pieces of ivory were recovered.
