Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources appointed to UNESCO Scientific Advisory Board

Professor Judi Wakhungu, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources Cabinet Secretary, has been appointed as a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Scientific Advisory Board by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.

 The central function of the Board is to provide advice on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development to the UN Secretary-General and to the executive heads of relevant United Nations organisations.  Some of the key objectives will be strengthen the linkage between science and policy, and to ensure that the latest scientific findings are reflected in high-level policy discussions within the United Nations system. The Board is comprised of internationally renowned scientists representing various fields of natural, social and human sciences.  The secretariat of the Board rests with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Prof. Wakhungu has graciously accepted the appointment and promised to perform her duties on the Board with full commitment and dedication.  This is indeed a great honour bestowed upon her, the Ministry and the Government of Kenya.
