KWS to host fifth edition of ‘To Hell’s Gate On A Wheelbarrow’ event

It’s all systems go as Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) holds the fifth edition of the ‘To Hell’s Gate on a Wheelbarrow’. The event will take place on June 8, 2013 at Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha.

This year’s event aims to raise over Sh10 million for the construction of an ultra-modern education centre. The facility will play a key role in the mobilisation and sensitisation of over one million people residents of the greater Naivasha area on the importance of protecting and conserving wildlife species as well as educating them on alternative wildlife enterprise for their economic benefit.

KWS has purchased education equipment to enhance its outreach programme to communities with part of the funds from previous events.  The programme has already covered most of the 110 schools in the wider Naivasha and Longonot area.

The wheelbarrow event will see teams divided into elite and corporate categories compete to push each other on wheelbarrows across a challenging 7-km terrain course inside Hell’s Gate National Park. There will also be a cash prize for the ‘Best Pimped Wheelbarrow’ at the event.

Sponsors of this year’s event include Kengen who are the platinum sponsors, Capital FM, the official radio sponsor, Kenya Tourism Board, Mabati Rolling Mills, Oserian Development, Tuskys Supermarket, Uchumi Supermarket, Finlays and The Boma.

The fun-filled day will be crowned by an evening bush party and Afro Fusion concert with a live performance by the famous Sauti Sol band. Additional entertainment will be offered by the Capital FM Djs.
