Soldier to be charged over ivory at Nairobi court
Date Published: 03 Oct, 2013
A long-serving soldier has been arrested by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officials while in possession of three pieces of ivory weighing 7kg at a city estate in Nairobi County on Wednesday (October 2, 2013).
The suspect, who is aged 44 years, has been serving in the Kenya Army for last 23 years.
KWS officials are drafting charges against the suspect tomorrow (Thursday, October 3, 2013) at Kibera Law Court in relating to being in illegal possession, dealing in a government trophy and failing to make a report to authorities.
The suspect was trailed and arrested in a Nairobi city suburb following a tip-off from members of the public. It is believed that the suspect transported the ivory from his home area in Taita Taveta County two months ago and was out to sell it off to a dealer.
He has been booked at Lang’ata Police Station awaiting arraignment in court.
