KWSTI embraces Enterprise Resource Planning System
Date Published: 13 Aug, 2014
Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute (KWSTI) has officially launched a project to implement an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for the institute to help manage its academic and management operations within the organization.
The institute in conjunction with KWS head office ICT department did the official project implementation launch of the ERP system at KWSTI in Naivasha on July 31, 2014 at a ceremony witnessed by the Principal of KWSTI Prof. George Owiti, the Head KWS ICT department Mr. Michael Otieno Odhiambo, and IT Manager Mr Robinson Kagonia. A team from the vendor responsible for the implementation of the solution, Parity Consultants, led by the CEO Mr James Wangombe also attended the launch.
Kenya Wildlife Service IT system administrator Mr. Bernard Omware made a presentation on the potential benefits of the solution to KWSTI. It is expected that with the system in place, the college will be able to produce reports within minutes of their request as the users will be able to query the system to produce the same as opposed to manually compiling data to come up with reports. The system will also manage student records; this includes marks, fees statements, academic calendar management, and registrar module among others.
Mr James Wangombe from Parity consultants also thanked the organization for the award to his company and promised to have a committed team from his end working with KWSTI to conclude the process successfully. He said the modules that would be included in the KWSTI ERP implementation include the academic calendar, finance, web based portal for students and staff to access the system, course management, online admissions, programs offered by KWSTI, fees management, accommodation, student record management, registration module, and class attendance reporting.
Mr. Odhiambo promised to have the ICT team fully engaged with the vendor to work on the solution to conclude the project by December this year so as to bring value addition to the institution. Prof. Owiti promised to fast track full implementation of the project to enable the institute reap its benefits in the shortest time possible.
Enterprise resource planning is business process management software that allows an organization to use a system of integrated applications to manage its business and automate many back office functions related to technology, services and human resources.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software is an enterprise application designed for large institutions or businesses and often requires dedicated teams to customize and analyze the data and to handle upgrades and deployment. ERP software typically consists of multiple enterprise software modules, based on what best meets the specific needs and technical capabilities of the organization. Each ERP module is focused on one area of business processes, such as registrar, student admissions or finance in this case of academia institutions
