Workshop
on Capacity Development for Wetlands and Poverty Reduction
Wetlands
International in conjunction with WWF EARPO and the Kenya
Wildlife Service Training Institute (KWSTI) is hosting an
“East African Consultation Workshop on Capacity Development
for Wetlands and Poverty Reduction” under the auspices
of the Wetlands International’s DGIS-sponsored TMF from
the Netherlands. The purpose of this Consultative Capacity
Building Workshop for East Africa is to strategize on how
to develop and build capacity and knowledge base for wetlands
users, managers, policy makers and other stakeholders to recognize
the importance and values of wetland resources in addressing
the challenges of sustainable development, particularly biodiversity
conservation and poverty reduction. KWSTI is honoured to host
and assist in the facilitation of this workshop.
Participants
to this workshop have come from a number of sectors such as
Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, Tourism & Wildlife,
Planning & National Development and represent the following
countries Burundi, Ethiopia, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda,
Zambia, Seychelles, Senegal, Sudan, Netherlands, Kenya as
well as several other specialist regional conservation and
development agencies (CARE International, UNDP, IUCN just
to mention a few).
The
workshop will run from March 27th-30th 2006 in Naivasha, Kenya
and is expected to be officially open by the Director KWS.
