Killed In Tana River

Wildlife Service rangers early today engaged a gang of 3 heavily
armed poachers at Galana ranch around Ali Choroa area, in
Tana River District. One Heavily armed poacher was eliminated
during the fire exchange.
The
incident, which occurred at 6 15 am today, comes in the wake
of yet another contact between KWS rangers and poachers on
the May 19th, 2006 within Lamu District where three other
poachers were gunned down and 2 AK 47 rifles, 2 magazines,
240 rounds of ammunition and four rhino horns were recovered.
Today’s
incident saw our rangers recovering 1 AK 47-assault rifle,
two magazines and 120 rounds of ammunition from the dead poacher.
Our
rangers are, currently trailing the two-armed poachers who
escaped arrest.
So
far, 4 armed Somali poachers have been gunned, 3 AK 47 assault
rifles, 360 rounds of ammunitions, 4 magazines and 4 rhino
horns recovered in the on-going operation which began on May
13th 2006, after two rhinos were reported killed in Tsavo
East National Park.
