Allia Bay Guesthouse

Location: Marsabit District, Eastern Province. The guesthouse is on the shores of Lake Turkana, 800km north of Nairobi

Accommodation: 3 single bedrooms

Bathroom: There is one bathroom

Sitting room: There is a furnished sitting room

Dining area: There is a furnished dining area.

Kitchen: The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, kitchen utensils, cutlery, crockery and glasses.

Provided: Caretaker, electricity and mosquito nets.

What to take with you: All supplies; especially fuel (the last fuel stations are in Marsabit or Maralal depending on the route taken) food and water.

Park highlights: Known as the ‘the cradle of mankind’, Sibiloi National Park was created to protect the sites of its many remarkable hominid fossil finds. The Koobi fora a Museum displays a selection of fossils and there is also a petrified forest. The lake hosts the world’s largest Nile crocodile population, 60 recorded species of fish and more than 350 recorded species of birds.

Activities: Museum, walking, boat trips and fishing.

How to get there: by air; Access to Lake Turkana is usually by air and there are two airstrips.

• By road: The Lake is a three day drive from Nairobi via Marsabit and North Horr, or Maralal and South Horr. Alternatively travel by road from Nairobi to Kolokol on the lake’s western shores, via Kitale and Lodwar. 4WD is essential all year round. Travel in a convoy is recommended.
• By boat: From Kalokol boat hire services are available across to Allia Bay.

Open: Daily 6.00 a.m. - 7.00 p.m. including public holidays. Note: no entry is allowed on foot and visitors will not be allowed entry after 6.15 p.m.

‘SafariCard’ required? At present this Park does not operate the SafariCard system and entry is by cash only (Ksh or US$).
