Murera and Kinna Bandas

Location: Meru District, Eastern Province. 358 km north-east of Nairobi, and 35 km east of Meru.

Accommodation:

• Murera Bandas: Four simple two bedroom bandas located by the main Murera Gate. Each bedroom has one double and one single bed.
• Kinna Bandas: Four simple bandas located 22km from Murera Gate and next to the Bwatherongi River. Three bandas have one bedroom with two single beds, the fourth has two bedrooms, each with a double bed.

Bathrooms: Murera: each bedroom has an ensuite shower room (hot water) and WC.
Kinna: each banda has a shower room (cold water) and WC.

Kitchen: None of the bandas has an indoor kitchen. All have an outdoor barbecue and washing-up area. No equipment is provided.

Provided: All the bandas are provided with: caretaker, kerosene lamps, blankets, pillows, bed linen and mosquito nets. Murera Bandas also have electricity and hot water.
Park highlights: Beautiful landscape, views of Mt. Kenya, former home of George and Joy Adamson and Elsa the lioness of ‘Born Free’ fame.14 permanent rivers and swamps.

Activities: Touring the park, picnics and wildlife watching.

Wildlife: Includes; lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, buffalo, zebra, black rhino, reticulated giraffe, hippo, lesser kudu, oryx, generuk, hartebeest and Grant’s gazelle.
Birds: More than 300 recorded species of birds.

How to get there: by road; Take the Nairobi- Nanyuki- Meru route (348 km) to Murera Gate. Note: there is no fuel in the Park. (last fuel station is at Maua). There is also the Ura Gate, which is approached via Embu.

• By air: The Park has several airstrips.
• Roads: 4WD is essential during the rainy seasons and recommended at other times to best tour the Park.

Open: Daily 6.00 a.m. - 7.00 p.m. including public holidays. Note: no entry is allowed on foot and visitors will not be allowed entry after 6.15 p.m.
